On-Call Family Nurse Practitioner – Parent FAQ

What does it mean that Phoenix Kids Club has Access to a dedicated Licensed Family Nurse Practitioner?

Phoenix Kids Club is supported by a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) who provides on-call medical guidance to enhance the health, safety, and wellness practices within our childcare program. This means our policies, procedures, and staff training are informed by a medical professional, helping us maintain a higher standard of care.

Is Phoenix Kids Club a medical facility?

No. Phoenix Kids Club is a licensed childcare and early learning center, not a medical clinic or hospital. The presence of a nurse practitioner does not change our role as a childcare provider. The nurse’s involvement is to support and guide health practices, not to operate a medical practice on-site.

Does the on-call Family Nurse Practitioner replace my child’s doctor?

No. The on-site Family Nurse Practitioner does not replace your child’s pediatrician or primary healthcare provider. Families should continue routine checkups, diagnoses, and ongoing medical care with their child’s own doctor. The nurse practitioner’s role is to support safety and wellness within the childcare setting.

What types of support does the Nurse Practitioner provide?

The Family Nurse Practitioner may assist with:

  • Health and safety policy development

  • Illness prevention and infection control practices

  • Emergency preparedness and response planning

  • Medication administration guidelines

  • Staff training on recognizing symptoms and responding appropriately

  • General health education for families

  • Guidance on when parents should seek medical evaluation

Can the Nurse Practitioner diagnose or treat children at the center?

No. The nurse practitioner does not provide medical diagnoses or treatment in place of a child’s doctor. Any medical concerns that require evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment are referred to the child’s primary healthcare provider or emergency services when appropriate.

Does the Nurse Practitioner give medical advice directly to parents?

The nurse practitioner may provide general health education and guidance but does not establish a provider–patient relationship or replace the role of your child’s physician. Any medical decisions remain between families and their child’s healthcare providers.

Is medication administered at Phoenix Kids Club?

Yes, when authorized by parents and supported by proper documentation, medications may be administered according to state childcare regulations and under medically guided protocols developed with the support of the Family Nurse Practitioner.

How does having a Nurse Practitioner benefit my child?

Children benefit from:

  • Stronger illness prevention practices

  • Clear health and safety procedures

  • Better-trained staff

  • Faster recognition of health concerns

  • Improved emergency readiness

  • A childcare environment guided by current medical standards

Is the Nurse Practitioner present at all times?

The Nurse Practitioner may provide scheduled on-site support when schedules permit. The Nurse Practitioner does provide ongoing medical guidance to the program. While the nurse may not be physically present at every moment, policies, procedures, and staff training are developed under their professional oversight.

How does this impact emergency situations?

In emergencies, Phoenix Kids Club follows established emergency response procedures, contacts parents immediately, and activates emergency medical services when needed. The Nurse Practitioner helps ensure these procedures align with current medical best practices.

Is my child’s medical information kept confidential?

Yes. All health information is handled in accordance with privacy standards and childcare regulations. Only authorized staff have access to medical forms and emergency information.

Why is this service uncommon in childcare centers?

Most childcare centers do not have licensed medical professionals involved in their programs. Without a credentialed healthcare provider, centers cannot legally or ethically claim medical guidance. Phoenix Kids Club is able to offer this added level of support because we work with a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner practicing within their professional scope.

How does this support working families?

Families gain peace of mind knowing their child’s environment is guided by medical expertise, especially important for:

  • Parents working long or overnight shifts

  • Children with health plans or medication needs

  • Families seeking higher safety and preparedness standards

  • Parents who value medically informed childcare practices

In Summary

Phoenix Kids Club’s partnered Family Nurse Practitioner provides professional medical guidance that enhances safety, wellness, and preparedness within our childcare program. This support is fully legal, ethical, and compliant, and is designed to complement—never replace—your child’s primary healthcare provider.
